Welcome to Achill Ocean’s Edge – the heart of the Wild Atlantic Way
Our traditional stone cottage by the sea is located in an amazingly special place, loved by us for many years. In an area of outstanding natural beauty, it stands at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, nestled at the foot of a sheltering hill. At the start of Achill’s celebrated Atlantic Drive, with breathtaking views, it is the ideal island retreat or romantic escape. Be lulled to sleep by the sound of the sea under clear starry skies, and wake to pure fresh air and magical days. Experience nature in the wild. Relax, recharge, and be inspired.
Rugged, Raw Nature
The spectacular raw beauty and wonderful western light of Achill have long attracted artists, writers, film makers and photographers to the Island. Walkers are enthralled by views of rugged hills and rolling moorlands. Seals, porpoises and basking sharks patrol the clear atlantic waters close to the cottage, whilst children and adults alike are entranced by the beautiful rock pools teeming with healthy plant and animal sea life.
Island Adventures
If you are seeking more strenuous activity than a gentle stroll and combing the beach, there are many choices available on the island. Sea fishing from shore or hired boat, surfing, kayaking, kitesurfing, windsurfing, cycling along the celebrated Great Western Greenway, pony trekking, and marked or guided walks are all available.
Jolly Rogers and Blue Flags
Stroll to the Pirate Queen’s Castle at Kildownet down the road, or take the ferry to her Clare Island home, which can be seen from your living room window. Visit the numerous blue flags that fly from Achill’s fine sandy beaches. If you can tear yourself away from the beauty on your doorstep, further afield is the beautiful town of Westport, Ballycroy National Park and the town of Ballina, famed for its world class salmon fishing on the river Moy.
