The closest bar is Pattens Lounge Bar in Derreens, about 2 miles away on the road down to the Sound. It has fantastic views across the Sound to Currane (Currarn). Run by Michael and Kathleen-Anne Patten (who you may also meet in the post office), Patten’s often has traditional music at the weekend in Summer. The bar also hosts one of the Yawl Races in July. No food beyond crisps and chocolate.

Closest for food is McLoughlin’s in the Sound. You will also find traditional music here several nights a week in summer.

There is also a takeaway in the Sound.

The Village Bakery and Coffee shop, also in the Sound, does a good all day breakfast, as well as soup and light meals, and yummy cakes.

If you go in the opposite direction when leaving the house and follow the coast you will go through the small village of Ashleam and come to Doeega. Mickey’s bar is here selling pub food and seafood. Interesting painting on the end wall inside.

The bar which is the furthest away, Geilty’s at the far edge of Dooagh, is well worth a visit for the craic. There is often a traditional music session in the evening and there is a coffee shop attached to the pub.

The smallest bar on the island, Lynotts, in Cashel, doesn’t do food but does do music.
